Perhaps you have information about some of the people here or know of a resource that I might follow up.
While I have been blessed in aquiring a lot of information, there ar still many areas of which I have no knowledge, of where to look, of Indexes & Repositories for records of which I might obtain copies.
HAMPSHIRE, Alverstoke, Gosport, Forton, Hardway, Portsea, Portsmouth, Titchfield - - PYCROFT.
- PYCROFT, John.
- married Jane MARSHALL, 24 October 1825 in Alverstoke Church.
- I have a copy from the church register.
- I have 1851, 1871, & 1881 census details.
- References to Mill Lane, Forton, Alverstoke.
- John was a Mariner and / or Shipwright at Gosport / Portsea.
- I have all the birth 'certificates' of all their children.
- I have a lot of information on the marraiges & deaths of their children.
- I cannot find a will / Admon for John.
- I would like to find information on:-
- John's Birth date & Place
- John's birth parents and siblings
- John's Death Date & Pace.
- Clues - & Questions :-
John was a mariner &/or shipwright as indicated on his marriage record, the birth & marriage records of his children.
- Q.- Is it reasonable to expect he might have followed work to Portsmouth from the other great naval base & harbour of Great Yarmouth in Norfolk? His birth family could be here.

- Q.- Is there any Portsmouth / Portsea / Gosport shipping, marine or harbour records that might disclose a few details?
- John's Death Date would have been between 1849 & census date March 1851.
- John's sons became Brick makers and brick layers. One of their descendants still practice that in 1999.

- Q.- While the Burseldon brick factory project has a little information, is there any more information that might tell of John and his boys? Is there any information that might tell of Portsmouth harbour construction or railways?
- CHURCH TITHES - Did Alverstoke Parish have such a revenue system in 1825? Is John PYCROFT on it?
- LAND RECORDS - are there any of these for Gosport , Alverstoke & Forton, in 1825?
